Meet Dr. Loomis
As a dentist, I am most passionate about the opportunity I have, with each person I see, to improve their quality of life. That might mean improving their dental function, addressing pain and discomfort, changing how they feel about their appearance, or offering education and motivation to take better care of their oral health.
One’s teeth, and all other oral structures, are vitally important to our everyday function, as well as playing a large part in facial aesthetics. I want my patients to eat the foods they love, to feel comfortable with how their teeth look, and to smile with confidence!
Background, Education, and Experience
I have practiced dentistry for 16 years and have been in and around the healthcare environment for over 20 years. I attended Oregon State University, graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, in 1995.
Prior to becoming a dentist, I was a research assistant with a large immunology/vaccine research group, at the Portland Veterans Affair Medical Center in Portland. I then decided to pursue my interest in healthcare with a more personal component and was accepted to the Oregon Health and Science University Dental School. In 2005, I received my Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD). Following dental school, I undertook a Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency at Idaho State University, receiving my Certificate of Completion in 2006.
Professional Affiliations and Continuing Education
One of the most exciting aspects of dentistry, I think, is how the field is constantly advancing. Research leads to innovative new technologies, materials, and techniques, all of which have the potential to improve my patients’ care and treatment outcome.
I am a member of the American and Montana Dental associations, and the 5th District Dental Society. Through these organizations, I annually attend numerous continuing education courses, studying a wide variety of general dentistry topics. By staying current with the latest advances, I am able to offer patients accurate insight into their needs and the different treatment options available to address their concerns.
Beyond the Office
I grew up in Hermiston, Oregon and have lived in the Helena/Montana City area with my family since 2015.
My lovely wife, Kari, is a Pediatrician with Partners in Pediatrics here in Helena. She also grew up in Oregon, where we met. She attended Oregon Health and Science University for medical school and the University of Utah, Primary Children’s Hospital, for her residency.
We have two wonderful sons, Brendan and Kaelan. Both attend local schools and participate in sports and other extracurricular activities. In addition to the boys, our family includes two female Labrador retrievers, River and Koda, who keep us all busy.
My greatest passion is my family and spending time together. We are generally on-the-go with sports activities in Spring and Fall. Although I don’t ski myself, Brendan and Kaelan love it, so I find myself driving them to Great Divide quite often.
My other great interests involve the outdoors: camping, hiking, fishing, and hunting. If I’m not in my garage or cave working on something related to those activities, I’m probably off somewhere doing them.
I’m definitely at my happiest when I’m somewhere in the backcountry, stepping away from the hustle and bustle of life. Reconnecting with the “wild side” helps keep me sane and healthy.
